I’m an over-thinker. I often take far too long to make decisions, whether large or small. God is helping me learn to make faster decisions and be willing to live with some mistakes.
A few days ago I was so frustrated with myself. I was being very indecisive about the dumbest things.
Sitting in my car in the church parking lot, feeling stuck, I said to God, “I think you might have chosen the wrong person for this job.”
But then I felt like the Holy Spirit spoke to me and encouraged me. “Make more mistakes.”
This seems crazy to write but I felt like the Holy Spirit said to me, “Through your mistakes, I will build my church.” In other words, I’m expected to make mistakes, but God uses this forward motion to do HIS work of building the church.
There’s a saying for carpenters, “Measure twice, cut once.” In other words, if you’re careful you won’t make mistakes. But for us over-thinkers, I think God is asking us to take more risks. Measure once and live with it.
I believe that a sense of urgency is important to be an effective leader. (See my article on Fast Leadership →)
Trying to build this momentum into my life!
