How do I share the gospel? What Bible verses can help me share the gospel? There are a lot of “methods” for sharing the gospel, and I want to look at one verse that you could say is the “Share the Gospel Bible Verse.”
This is the “share the gospel bible verse” that you see on signs in sports stadiums and on billboards. It is recognized as probably the most clear statement of salvation in the Bible. It is the first Bible verse that many people memorize as kids.
Here is the first in a series of posts I’m writing that examines the words and pictures we use to tell the gospel story. Stay tuned for more!
Five Elements of this “Share the Gospel Bible Verse”
God loves us
It all starts here. God loved us first! He initiated this rescue mission—sending Jesus—because he loves us.
God sent Jesus
He sent His Son. Not just an emissary. Not a hired hand. His Son. I saw a critique of Lauren Daigle’s song lyric “I will send out an army to find you,” saying that it’s inaccurate because God didn’t send an army to find us, He sent His Son. Technically the critique is correct, but in reality, Jesus is much more than an army. He’s the Son of the King.
We must put our trust in Jesus
What does it mean to “believe in him?” It simply means that we put our trust in him. We trust that Jesus is our Rescuer.
Then we are rescued from death
Because we all sin, the default for us humans is that we die. Not just our physical bodies, but our spirits as well, they go to a place of death. God is just and sin requires a payment, so by default, we die for our own sins. However, God is merciful and was willing to pay the penalty himself. This created a way for us to be rescued if we embrace his gift.
And instead have life forever
The alternative to death is life. And in this case, it’s life with God forever. For eternity. And that’s not all. Our life here and now, on earth, is also affected by our decision to trust Jesus. “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly,” Jesus said. Trusting Christ doesn’t necessarily make our life easier, but it does make our life better.
A great verse for sharing the gospel!
John 3:16 is probably the most well known “share the gospel Bible verse.” It’s a great verse to use to express the message of the gospel!
And of course there are other verses as well. I plan to examine other Scripture verses, as well as models and visual tools that people have created over the years to help us tell the good news of the gospel clearly. I think we need some new ways of telling the gospel, to be honest.
