We are all learning more about racism in America these days. I’m glad this is happening. I have so much to learn. This isn’t something that I know very much about or have very much experience with. But I want to learn more.
I believe that it is critical for every believer to stand up for justice. It is nothing short of horrifying to read of the accounts of how African Americans were treated just a few short decades ago.
And what about systemic racism now? What does it look like today? I think it’s all too easy for people like me to simply miss it. To not see where it is happening.
This 18 minute video by Phil Vischer, creator of VeggieTales, helped me see some of the roots of systemic racism that have led to where we are today.
An aside: I met Phil at the Amplify Conference in Chicago a couple years ago and we talked about how he spent the first years of his life in Muscatine, Iowa—my hometown. He grew up attending Mulford Evangelical Free Church, one of the many good churches in Muscatine, Iowa.
I learned from this video. I hope it’s helpful for you. I would love to hear about other resources that have been helpful for you. Please send them to me if you have found something you’ve learned from.
